Welcome to VintageRuby!

Hello!
Welcome to VintageRuby, a blog about our cycling adventures.

I'm Sophie, and the bloke next to me is The Bearded Wonder, Chris

These are our bikes, the red one is mine, a Vintage Ammaco le Sport and is named Ruby.
A wonderful wee bike, she is very easy to maintain, though the gear shifters are on the top tube which was fun to figure out how to balance and shift at the same time! I got her off Freecycle last year and the only thing which needed replacing was the saddle.
The Bearded Wonders' bike was originally pink and silver, so, being a manly type it got resprayed to black.
We are very much cyclists on budgets, so you won't see fancy new expensive bikes or kit here, which is a little bit of a pain when it comes to replacing Ruby's tyres as she has 24x 1 1/4 tyres, which are a  bugger to find these days, especially on a budget!

We spent this summer pootling around the neighbouring villages, which, being 1000ft above sea level, involves hills of some for either on the way there or on the way back, which was a bit of a learning curve!

My cycling "kit" involves an Aldi short sleeve jersey (a few sizes too big, so it's a bit loose) a pair of leggings, second hand Nike trainers, a bandana (i'm saving up for a helmet!)and Aldi's padded cycling gloves

The Bearded Wonder's "kit" is comprised of a wooly hat, a football shirt, a pair of chino's and lightweight walking boots

A more recent addition to my kit is this rather stunning As Bold As cycling jacket that i won in a giveaway on Instagram. It's windproof and waterproof which is perfect for where we live as we get a lot of both! So far it is living up to all it promised, and i am loving it! I was a bit wary about the bright colour at first, my first time wearing we went food shopping and to start with i was a little self conscious but i quickly got used to it and thought "Sod it, why not be Bold? That's what it's there for!"

The bright yellow gives no excuse for drivers not to see me, and the all round reflective detailing helps make me extra visible whilst cycling at night.

It is also super comfortable and very lightweight, so you don't feel hot and clammy when pedaling hard, and the lovely fleecy lining on the neck means it doesn't rub and make it itchy/red etc

So, that's us!
Hopefully we will have many more rides to come :)
